Welcome to Year 5

Class teacher: Mr Rix

Teaching Assistants: Mrs Newsome & Miss Shields

Class Saint: St. Thomas More

Welcome to Year 5!

St Thomas More was recognised for his great intelligence, impartiality, and wisdom, he rose through the ranks of Parliament and earned King Henry VIII’s favour until he became Lord Chancellor in 1529. He resigned the chancellorship three years later, however, when he was unable to support Henry’s divorce of Catherine of Aragon and marriage to Anne Boleyn. In 1535, he was convicted of treason and beheaded, and four hundred years later, he was canonised.

More’s decision to follow his conscience, forsake his reputation and profession to do what is right teaches us to grow beyond ourselves, seek the truth, and stand by our beliefs.

‘I die the King’s good servant, and God’s first.’

In Year 5, we value character strengths such as commitment and resilience as key factors in success. We strive to enjoy learning, help one another, to keep going and keep trying in all our challenges!
