At St John’s, Religious Education sits at the centre of school life because Christ is at the centre of our community. Through Religious Education, we support every child in growing in knowledge, understanding and love of God.
Our aim is to develop pupils who are religiously literate. Children learn the teachings of the Catholic faith, explore Scripture, and reflect on how the Gospel shapes the way we live. Through this learning, pupils grow in their ability to think carefully about faith, ask meaningful questions, and understand how belief influences actions.
Religious Education helps children to:
• understand the story of salvation through Scripture
• know the key teachings and traditions of the Catholic Church
• recognise the dignity of every person
• reflect on their own beliefs and values
• respect the beliefs and traditions of others
Through high-quality teaching and opportunities for discussion, reflection and prayer, pupils learn how faith connects to daily life. Religious Education supports them in becoming thoughtful, compassionate individuals who live out Gospel values within school, their families and the wider community.
