We recognise that ICT is an important tool in both the society we live in and in the process of teaching and learning. At St. John’s we recognise that pupils are entitled to quality resources and a structured and progressive approach to the learning of the skills needed to enable them to use them effectively. We want to use technology imaginatively and creatively to inspire and engage all pupils, as well as using it to be more efficient in the tasks associated with running an effective school.
We use a computing scheme called ilearn2. Ilearn2 states the intent of the scheme is to help pupils become independent, creative, safe, respectful and problem-solving digital citizens with a broad and transferable skill set. iLearn2 makes computing fun for pupils, inspiring them to develop skills beyond the classroom and building an awareness of all the opportunities the subject provides.
We use Project Evolve (which encompasses the ‘Education for a Connected World’ document) to support our teaching of Online Safety. Project Evolve's intent is to “evolve” the online safety messages that children and young people were being taught into something more appropriate; more meaningful; that encouraged reflection; that generated positive outcomes. We want to equip pupils with skills, strategies and knowledge that will enable them to reap the benefits of the online world, whilst being able to minimise risk to themselves or others.
